Project Summary

Our team conducted a comprehensive review of the hydroelectric generator protection systems to ensure alignment with applicable codes, protection standards, and industry best practices, and compliance with relevant NERC reliability standards. The scope of work included:

• Developed a protection narrative including setting calculations for the incoming line protections, generator step-up transformer protections, station service transformer protections, excitation transformer protections, and two (2) 10.2MVA hydroelectric generator protections.
• Ensured protection system compliance with applicable NERC reliability standards (PRC-019, PRC-024, PRC-025 PRC-026), IESO market rules, the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), and applicable IEEE/CSA standards for protection of power systems.
• Developed the required plots of the protection settings to complete the NERC reliability spreadsheets to confirm compliance.
• Developed protection logic diagrams.
