Goldcorp Inc. – Red Lake Gold Mine – 120kV Substation
Location: Redlake, Ontario
Customer: Goldcorp Inc.
Project Summary
Our team performed complete commissioning and start-up services for a new 121 kV to 44 kV substation. This included testing of high-voltage equipment, integration of control and protection systems, and implementation of advanced automation schemes to ensure safe and reliable operation. The scope of work included:
- Performed complete commissioning and startup services for the 121 kV to 44 kV substation, including the following major activities:
- Filled, tested, and commissioned five (5) 44 kV SF₆ circuit breakers and one (1) 145 kV SF₆ circuit breaker.
- Commissioned thirty (30) sets of current transformers, capacitive voltage transformers (CVTs), and metering transformers.
- Tested and commissioned three (3) 120 kV motorized disconnect switches and eight (8) 44 kV disconnect switches.
- Conducted primary injection testing to verify correct vector orientation of current circuits across all differential protection zones.
- Designed and implemented a Kirk key interlocking scheme for substation equipment safety and operational integrity.
- Configured and tested the D20 Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) for substation control and monitoring.
- Designed and configured an automatic transformer paralleling scheme utilizing the delta-VAR method to manage tap changer mismatch and control logic.
- Developed and updated the substation HMI display to include three (3) new 44 kV capacitor bank feeders, integrating breaker status, disconnect switch positions, and metering quantities.
