Canada Malting Company – Cogeneration Project
Location: Thunder Bay, Ontario
Customer: Canada Malting
Project Summary
Our team provided commissioning and start-up services for a 2.5 MVA natural gas cogeneration facility, including complete electrical testing, relay programming, system integration and ensured compliance with utility interconnection requirements. This included commissioning of medium and low voltage switchgear, protection and control systems, and communication infrastructure. The scope of work included:
- Provided complete commissioning and start‐up services for a 2.5MVA cogeneration project
- Performed testing and commissioning on the 23.8kV and 600V switchgear
- Performed point to point verification of all the DC control circuitry and AC instrument transformer secondary circuits
- Performed testing and commissioning of the 2.5MVA natural gas generator and step up transformer
- Programmed, configured, and commissioned the SEL‐787, SEL‐351, SEL‐2440, and GE‐489 protection relays
- Programmed, configured, and commissioned the SEL‐3505 RTAC communication controller with all the required telemetry points required by TBH
- Provided setup, testing, and verification of all the remote fiber communication channels utilizing the mirrored bits SEL communication protocol
- Provided testing and verification of all the telemetry points including final end-to-end testing with the TBH control room
- Performed dead and live zone testing of the remote transfer trip (TT) and distributed generator end open (DGEO) signals with Hydro One and TBH
- Performed ground grid resistance testing utilizing the fall of potential method outlined in IEEE std. 81
- Performed battery bank acceptance testing utilizing the IEEE std. 1181 time adjusted method
